Private with Daisy

Yesterday 4 of us (3 Livejournalist) made the trek up to take a 2 hour private with Daisy. I had set this up with her a few months back before Keeper was injured and even though I didn't have a dog to run I got tons out of it for stuff to work on with him even in the rehab state we're in now.

1st thing I have to say is that the facility "It's a Dogs World" is awesome. The astroturf footing is unlike anything I've ever been on. Easy on the dogs joints and on the handlers' too. Beautiful beautiful facility. Hmmm....wonder if I could get my husband to relocate up there so I could train there permanently????

Back the the lesson.....the main things that the others worked on was acceleration and decleration cues and also using lateral motion to cue a turn. Daisy also gave us a couple of drills, working a serp figure 8 and doing a box drill...with you on the outside teaching the dogs to decelerate and compress to make it around the corners. The two hours went by way too fast. The more things that were brought up, the more questions came up and now that I'm back home I've got more questions. I can see us doing this again in a few months if Daisy is willing.

I haven't been involved in a class situation in quite a while and even when I was it just isn't the same as a private.
I'll be auditing one of Daisy's seminars next month and then rumor is that Linda Mecklenburg's coming in June sometime. That will be a definite go to!

Even though I'm tired....yesterday was a freaking awesome fun day!!!

No problem...glad to do it. We'll have to do it again in a few months. Only earlier in the day. Even though I didn't get to run a dog I got a lot out of it.

I'm so glad that ML stayed at your house overnight. We were so worried about her driving all that way home.

Me too. I was so tried last night. She left at 6:45 this morning, I was still sleeping....(of course I got up at 5 am to let the little shit out ;-)

Wow...that's early. She probably needed to get home to take care on Any.

I was up at 8 and at Camp Rivendales by 9 for a walk with the dogs. Did some jump chutes with Keeper...6 jumps at 16" in a slight curve to the right. Worked out on the Bosu ball...both me and Keeper. Try standing on the curved side of the ball with your eyes shut...pretty funny. Trimmed doggie toenails, cleaned the bathroom, did laundry, watched most of the Jenny Damm DVD (Steve came home), fixed dinner, and just now got back from a 30 minute walk with the dogs. I'm pooped!!!

Yep, we heard you get up, then I fell back asleep. I took the dogs out and started car, it was so frosty, then got dressed the rest of the way and left. I got home so early that I got tons of work done at home. Thanks again. BTW, did you water your plants? hehe ML

Mayzie was pretty funny in the crate on the way back to Portland. All of a sudden she'd let out this bark and then there'd be nothing. A few minutes later a series of two-five barks and then lots of noise like she was attacking the water bowl or something. We couldn't figure out what the heck she was doing. Then when I took the dogs somewhere yesterday the whole thing became clear. She was trying to (and suceeded) to get the poop bag dispenser off the front of the crate. Guess the barks where play, she'd found herself a toy. I just put the thing back on...too funny.

They are already dead. (Not dying). In my house, unless they bark or meow at me to tell me they need something, they won't make it long ;-)

No problem, glad you stayed and slept instead of driving. Was Any ok with the night alone or did she have a party?

Sounds like a great day. I have had a couple shared privates and attended a one day seminar with Daisy. I got a lot of great info! She has great info to share and is a good teacher! Glad you guys had fun. Sounds like an awesome facility. I can't wait until the LM seminar. Hope I can get a working spot(and I can afford it)!

Daisy is doing another seminar up at Brigands in April and what I've been told is that for a LM seminar you get just as much out of auditing as you do out of participating. That'll make it a little easier on the budget.

So glad you had a good time and it was worth the trip. I like Auditing stuff, I feel like I can spend ALL my time listening and absorbing the information. When you have a dog w/ you, you must divide your time between taking care of them, and trying to get what you can from the instructor. Of course, if you're working on something really specific, it would be great to try it out w/ your dog. But listening is better learning for me anyway.
